Vienna, 1889-1948, London.

Freistadtl came from a wealthy industrial family which allowed him the freedom to pursue his musical ambitions. He made a successful name for himself in England under the name of Robert Frey and though the premiere of his adaptation of Goldoni\u2019s \u201cMirandolina\u201d commissioned by Max Reinhardt was thwarted by Hitler\u2019s appointment as chancellor in 1933, it was successfully opened at the Viennese Raimund Theater. The annexation of Austria in 1938 meant loss of work and homeland. Immigration to England was followed by internment. He died forgotten in London exile in 1948.\u00a0
